Anyone here a veggie?
I've eaten meat all my life but am now seriously considering becoming a vegetarian.

I'm not ashamed to call myself an animal lover and some videos I've seen recently of mass production in the meat industry are absolutely horrific. And thanks to our changing population, more and more chains and local shops are adopting halal methods which I find utterly barbaric and don't want to fund anymore.

Free range is one thing and has its merits, but I'd be lying if I said the appalling conditions these animals are subjected to in mass production methods doesn't get to me. Until now I've switched off the connection between what is on my plate and where it came from.

There are several good arguments to suggest that meat is good for a balanced diet, but the production line methods and cold detachment is really jarring to me.

I eat a lot of quorn-based products already as my girlfriend is a quasi-veggie so the transition to this kind of food doesn't bother me (some of the stuff is actually really nice and you'd be pushed to tell the difference), although I would miss the occasional burger, steak or kebab.

Has anyone else made the switch?

The meat industry is literally destroying local environments and communities, just ask all those that live near the huge disgusting US owned meat factories in Eastern Europe, which is where all the shit cheap meat comes from that most people eat!

Vegetarians are in fact killing the planet.

Due to the high fibre content (the fibre is indigestible) of a vegetarian, raw vegetable or vegan diet, vegetarians have increased flatulence (see my earlier comments about them being smelly cunts).

The flatulence emits methane, this is DESTROYING (RAPING!!) the ozone layer and by my estimate will wipe out life as we know it some time in the future.

Ahhh so it's not deforestation, biocides, pollution etc that are ruining the earth. It's us veggies.

I'm SO sorry, please forgive us...

If we ate insects we could grow less crops freeing up land for other uses or for nature to reclaim.

Veggie scum are ruining the Earth with their anthropomorphic nonsense.

The less people that want meant and dairy, the less is needed to fulfil the demand.

On a one to one scale any Vegan/Veg seems to make no difference at all. With 7 to 11% of the UK population being Meat free, there will come a point where the impact on Torturing animals will become the next social, moral breakthrough. People in the future will look on meat eater ideals in the same way we look at the Ideals Racism and Misogyny. A relic of a time long past.

I was expecting the pet food debate to come up any time now.

I have another question, say I stopped eating meat tomorrow. PETA and other websites state that it will save 100 animals a year.

But how does the effect 'trickle down' through the system? Surely those 100 animals will still be processed, my demand doesn't even register, and if anything those animals will now go to waste because I'm not there to consume them?

It's not like there'll be 100 live animals at the end of the year who they can give to me as they were ear-marked for Blunders.

Our 3 cats get meat based food but they need it, they can't live on vegetables same as dogs.

Kearley,

Yes I have a dog and a cat in my household. They are both fed a mixture of meat and cereals.

Which, of course, has no bearing whatsoever on my choice not to eat meat.

Dogs and cats, whilst undoubtedly conscious beings, have yet to evolve sufficiently to make an informed choice about their diet.

A question for veggies:

I assume many veggie's are animal lovers, and therefore have cats and dogs as pets. If so, do you feed them meat?
